A general election for the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan is going to be held on May 29th, 2021. The Declaration of Election sending Métis voters across the Province to the polls to elect members to the Provincial Métis Council will be issued on Saturday by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Gwen LaFond. The Declaration sets Saturday, May 29th, 2021 as Election Day with candidate nominations opening on Saturday April 24th and closing at 2:00pm Thursday April 29th. LaFond stated “This is an important and exciting election for Métis Citizens across the Province and there will be plenty of opportunities to vote, in a safe, controlled environment. The eligibility has changed this election and only those who have their Registered Saskatchewan Metis Citizenship Card or letter issued from the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan Registrar will be eligible to vote. Those citizens will bring their card or letter, along with their valid SK Health Card and acceptable ID when they vote.” There are 12 regional returning offices established throughout Saskatchewan where eligible voters will be able to vote from May 14th to May 21st. Voters will also be able to vote in their region at the advance poll on May 22nd or on Election Day – May 29th, 2021. The 2021 election is being conducted under the authority of the Saskatchewan Métis Elections Act, 2007. More information on the 2021 election is available at www.mnselection.ca
